You know, it was just last week we were talking about how social came to be – and really why it mattered back in the beginning.
It allowed consumers to get to know the people behind the brands they love. It allowed communities to build around a person or group of people that eventually enticed them to purchase a product from their brand.
It made everything, simply, more human.
So that’s why I’m out here encouraging everyone to find a way to thread some of YOU back into your brand’s social. If you’re the owner, the founder, or a solopreneur, remember that authenticity matters. People don’t want to just see highly curated, over-produced photos of your product. They want to feel that you are approachable, credible, trustworthy. They want to know you also run late and spill your coffee in your car. They want to see you trip and fall – not to laugh at you, but to know on some level you are just like them…. and who doesn’t want to buy something from someone just like them?
You don’t need to start sharing everything you eat or publish when you aren’t feeling like it, but once in a while, show us your YOU. Show us who you really are and watch your engagement turn. Get real with people, and know they’re engaging with you just as authentically.
So don’t overdo it but start thinking about how once a week you can make your company’s social just a tad more personal.
Come back and let me know how it goes!
