I say it often to my clients: This is no time to be humble.

You know who sells your business better than you do? Better than your top salesperson? YOUR CLIENTS.

Think about it. How often do you pick up the phone and call someone whose ad you saw without first asking your friends or your social media community, “Does anyone have <insert vendor here> they can recommend? From painters to plumbers, agencies, personal shoppers, car salespeople, doctors, florists, cake bakeries… I mean, the list goes on and on.

So make it a habit of asking YOUR clients who are happy with your product or service to tell the world.

There are a variety of ways people can help you start a groundswell for your business:

  • Would they write a google review?
  • Would they submit a written testimonial specifically for you to share on your social (even a text you can screenshot)?
  • Would they create a video and publish it on their own Instagram, collaborating with you?
  • Would they do a Facebook review?
  • Would they recommend you on LinkedIn?
  • Would they hand out a business card?
  • Would they invite you to their networking group so you can be introduced and they can sing your praises?

The thing is, you never know if you don’t ask. So ASK.

One word of caution, however:

I do not recommend sending a blanket ask to your entire database. There are two reasons for this:

  1. While, of course, we want to believe all our clients are 150% happy with every project we do for them, we want to be realistic and select those clients who we are sure will present a glowing review.
  2. It’s better to spread the reviews out and not have them all requested, received and published all in one day.

Look, I know it’s not always easy to go about this task. It’s yet another thing to add to your list… and it’s hard to not be humble. Look at my google reviews – there aren’t many yet because I had the same issue. But a few months ago I started making asking for reviews a priority and they are now trickling in (and I’m trickling the asks out).

It’s important so get going. If you don’t tell people how awesome you are, how will they ever know? Lean on your happiest clients to help you spread the word!
