The best piece of advice I ever got was this: hire people who have skills you do not.

At the time, I probably nodded along like we all do when someone gives us smart business advice. Of course that makes sense. Of course you should not try to be everything to everyone. But like many entrepreneurs, especially women building something from the ground up, I secretly believed I could figure it all out myself.

I am a visionary. I can see the strategy. I can hear the voice of a brand. I know how to pull stories out of people and turn them into content that connects. I love sitting with a client and understanding what makes them different. That is my zone.

But editing video down to the exact second so that the hook hits at the perfect moment? Remembering every single Instagram best practice and implementing it consistently? Designing graphics that feel custom, polished, and aligned across platforms? Building project systems that keep everything moving forward without chaos?

That is not my zone.

And that is where my team comes in.

Candace’s attention to detail is unmatched. She does not just edit video. She refines it. She makes sure the captions are clean. She catches the small mistakes no one else sees. She understands Instagram trends and best practices in a way that allows our content to feel current without feeling desperate. When a Reel looks beautiful and seamless, there is a very good chance Candace has touched it.

Lindsay has stepped into graphic design in a way that has elevated everything we do. She creates branded pieces that actually reflect the personality of each organization we work with. Not cookie-cutter templates. Not generic Canva graphics. Real branding. Real tone. Real visual consistency. She understands that design is not decoration. It is communication.

And Meredith. Meredith has this ability to take what feels overwhelming and break it down into manageable projects. She helps us move from big idea to actionable steps. She keeps things rolling. She makes sure the right things are happening at the right time. Without that structure, creativity can easily turn into chaos.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a quick shout-out to my daughter, our former intern, Jenna. Though she’s moved on from working with us, she still is my co-host for The Social Dialogue Podcast and still, from time to time, gives us a heads up on a trend that isn’t in our algorithm. She’s our window into Gen Z.

What I have learned is this: hiring people who are better than you at certain things is not a threat. It is a gift.

It allows you to stay in your strengths. It allows them to shine in theirs. And it creates a company that is stronger than any one person could build alone.

I love what I do. I love strategy. I love storytelling. I love being the voice behind the brands we represent. But I love it even more because I do not do it alone.

The real magic is not in trying to master every skill. The magic is in building a team where each person brings something different to the table.

That piece of advice changed everything for me. Not because it made the work easier, but because it made the work better.

And better is always the goal.
