Did you know…
- Colonel Sanders franchised KFC at age 62
- Ray Kroc joined McDonald’s as a franchise agent at age 52
- Martha Stewart published her first book and launched her media career after age 41
- Julia Child published her first book at age 50
So last week, when we received a comment on a YouTube post that said we were “six years late” to the podcasting game I thought A. How mean… you could just keep on scrolling by and B. HUH???
The podcast is something I’m doing with my daughter who is now 21 and well-versed in all the topics we are covering (sometimes more well-versed than I am). If we had launched this together six years ago she would have been 15 and that, my friends, would have been a whole different podcast.
I’m 52 years old. It’s not too late. It’s really never too late. And while I do believe in some level of “let’s do this now while we can,” some things just truly do need the right timing to come together.
Over the past few years I’ve done some deep soul searching and have found I can do new things:
- We traveled to Africa as a family and due to a medical emergency on my husband’s side, the kids and I ended up there on our own. Never thought I’d be brave enough.
- I started taking classes on the Pilates reformer which always felt daunting but my daughter took me with her to a class and now I’m hooked.
- I am bundling up and walking the puppy in the cold – even when it is really, really cold… something I’ve always said no way to doing. May not seem like some kind of fantastic feat, but I’m telling you, for me it is.
- I’ve been organizing get togethers with the moms I met through my kids now that they are graduated and gone. We have been doing lunches with the boy moms from my son’s class and we have our first dinner with a group of moms I met through my daughter tomorrow (our kids are in the their final year of college). Sometimes you just have to make things happen.
Are any of these earth-shattering? No. But they are bringing out my bravery and getting my brain to work in a different way.
The podcast is on the list – learning to edit it and roll it out has been a lot of fun. If you’re thinking you want to do something and it’s too late…. I’m telling you it’s NOT.
You can find our podcast here. Don’t miss it!
